A bold move in the crypto world has caught everyone's attention! VivoPower, a Nasdaq-listed company, is taking a massive leap into the XRP ecosystem with a potential $1 billion XRP exposure. But here's where it gets controversial... they're not directly buying XRP!
VivoPower's XRP Adventure: A Billion-Dollar Bet
VivoPower, through its digital asset arm, Vivo Federation, has partnered with Lean Ventures, an asset manager based in South Korea, to source $300 million worth of Ripple Labs shares. This move indirectly exposes investors to nearly $1 billion in XRP, based on current market prices.
The strategy is unique: instead of purchasing XRP directly, Lean Ventures plans to create a specialized investment vehicle holding Ripple Labs shares. This vehicle will target institutional and qualified retail investors in South Korea, a significant market for XRP globally.
VivoPower has received the green light from Ripple to purchase preferred shares and is in talks to acquire more from existing institutional holders. However, when asked for more details, VivoPower cited legal restrictions, stating they couldn't comment on market-sensitive matters.
A Ripple representative also declined to comment as of Thursday.
Despite not committing its own capital, VivoPower stands to earn management fees and performance carry, targeting $75 million in net economic returns over three years if the initial $300 million mandate is met.
This move builds on VivoPower's recent shift towards an XRP-focused treasury strategy. Earlier this year, the company raised $121 million led by Saudi investor Abdulaziz bin Turki Abdulaziz Al Saud, positioning itself as a pioneer in adopting XRP as its primary digital asset strategy over Bitcoin or Ether.
VivoPower has already deployed XRP in yield-generating strategies, including a $100 million allocation through Flare's FAssets system, and has adopted Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin for treasury operations.
And this is the part most people miss: VivoPower's move is a testament to the growing confidence in XRP's potential and its ability to attract institutional investors.
What do you think about VivoPower's XRP strategy? Is this a smart move or a risky bet? Let's discuss in the comments!
